As we can finally open our doors again it’s time for the first ‘Creator of the month’ of 2021. And this time we are heading to Moretonhampstead to meet Claire + Adam, the founders of Papillon Gin. One of our absolute favourites, a Papillon + tonic really is Dartmoor in a glass and the notes of Devon violets are delicious. So, let’s go beyond the bottle and discover the story behind making gin on Dartmoor.
WHO?
Papillon was created by the brilliant Claire + Adam, who grew up on Dartmoor and enjoy sharing its special qualities through their small-batch gin.
WHY?
Born from their love of Dartmoor and the environment. Together they love to explore the moor, on foot or bike, and are always keen for an adventure, accompanied by a Papillon Gin and Tonic of course.
WHAT?
Papillon Gin is the first of its kind, made with botanicals found on Dartmoor, including fresh gorse flowers from the moor, rowan and hawthorn berries, chamomile, nettles, navelwort and Devon violets. The name Papillon comes from the Pearl Bordered Fritillary, an endangered Dartmoor butterfly that feeds on wild violets. 1% of every bottle sold is donated to The Butterfly Conservation project. (How brilliant!)
WHERE?
The distillery is based in Moretonhampstead, just 20 miles from us at Alder.
