As we are starting to head into summer (all be it a bit soggy so far!) no weekend in Devon is complete without an ice-cold cider in the garden. And for us, it has to be a bottle of Sandford Orchards. We are big fans of their core range with their Devon red being a firm favourite amongst our team, but their new, more serious oaky release of The General is proving quite a hit too! But who’s behind these bottles of Devon sunshine?
WHO?
Barny Butterfield is the mastermind behind Sandford Orchards. It all started back in 2002 with him making cider in his shed and now they have grown considerably.
WHY?
The approach at Sandford Orchards has always been the same, to make cider the right way. Their creativity and pure love of cider drives them to ensure their ciders are always consistently delicious and to produce exciting small-batch ciders that push the boundaries of modern cider making.
WHAT?
They press and ferment juice from the finest, locally sourced fruit. No artificial flavours or aromas, simply the best natural ingredients, that they age to perfection. No shortcuts. And that really comes through when you open an ice-cold bottle to enjoy at home. Delicious!
WHERE?
Sandford Orchards are based in Crediton and proudly work out of the oldest working cider mill in the UK.
